Still, fire in the roof of the Leen Bakker furniture store, part of the roof has to be demolished

A very large fire raged in the Leen Bakker furniture store on Thursday evening at the Ekkersrijt industrial estate near Son. After the fire brigade gave the signal to fire, the fire flared up again, but this time in the roof of the building. Part of the roof is therefore currently being demolished.

Several shops near the Leen Bakker have been evacuated. Many of those stores suffered smoke damage, the fire brigade reports.

The fire brigade scaled up several times due to the size of the fire. The fire appeared to have been extinguished around half past seven, but flared up again in the roof of the building around half past nine. Then it was scaled up again.

Several stores suffered from smoke
The fire brigade was initially present at the industrial estate with six fire engines and three aerial platforms. The fire probably started in or near a pile of mattresses, says a 112 correspondent from Omroep Brabant. That was also where the fire took the longest time.

Several shops in the area are very affected by the smoke. The smoke moved in after the fire and caused a lot of damage. The fire brigade will spend the rest of the evening ventilating those shops. There were no casualties.

Fire before
Earlier this year there was also a fire on the industrial estate. That’s when the fire started in the Kwantum. The Leen Bakker was then damaged by smoke that traveled through the building.

It now appears that the adjacent Kwantum and Beter Bed mainly suffered smoke and fire damage. But there is also a lot of smoke damage in other nearby shops, the fire brigade reports.
