As in life, he was adored by everyone he passed in the multiple creative disciplines he conquered. My heartfelt thanks to all the NHS staff who have worked tirelessly for Steve. He will be missed beyond words” he concluded.

Even Pulp wanted to remember Steve Mackey with a post on Instagram: “Our beloved friend and bassist Steve Mackey passed away this morning. Our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones,” they wrote in the photo caption. “This photo of Steve was from when Pulp were on tour in South America in 2012. We had a day off and Steve suggested we scramble in the Andes,” the band members explained. “So we did. And it was a completely magical experience. Much more magical than staring at the hotel room wall all day (which we probably would have done otherwise),” they continued. “Steve made things happen. In his life and in the band. And we really like to think that he is now back in those mountains, at the next stage of his adventure. Safe travels, Steve” they concluded.

Steve Mackey’s career

Steve Mackey he joined Pulp in 1989 and contributed to the writing of all subsequent albums by the band. After breaking up in 2002, Pulp had returned to performing live between 2011 and 2012 and, just in recent months, had announced the new tour scheduled for next summer. However, last October Mackey had already announced he would not be joining the band. In recent years the bassist had also collaborated, as a music producer, with Florence + the Machine, MIA, Arcade Fire and Spiritualized.
