Star – After defeat: Ronaldo apologizes for “freak out”

Liverpool (AP) – Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo apologized to a fan for his “freak out” after Manchester United’s 0-1 (0-1) defeat at Everton.

As can be seen in photos on social media, the 37-year-old striker had slapped the mobile phone out of the hand of a supporter as he left the pitch at Goodison Park in frustration at the bankruptcy of the relegation contender.

“I would like to apologize for my freak out and – if possible – invite the fan to attend a game at Old Trafford,” said the Portuguese via Instagram. He sees his gesture of apology as a “sign of fair play and sportsmanship”.

Manchester United is investigating the incident. As they are seventh in the table, the English record champions are now getting closer and closer to qualifying for the European Cup.
