At the end of the afternoon, the fire brigade responded to a fire in a batch of conifers in Hoogersmilde.
The fire raged along the Beilervaart in a pile of dead conifers. A lot of smoke was released.
The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire from spreading further. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
In the period before New Year’s Eve, fires are lit more often in the villages of Smilde, Hoogersmilde and Bovensmilde. For example, earlier this month a scrap car and a trailer went up in flames in Smilde.
Last year there were also several hits in and around Smilde in December. The mayor of Central Drenthe then indicated that he would discuss this with the young people from the villages.
