Sporthaus Wohlleben GmbH, based in Dörfles-Esbach in the Coburg district of Upper Franconia, has filed for bankruptcy. On October 16, 2025, the Coburg District Court ordered the provisional administration of the company’s assets and appointed Peter Roeger from Pluta Rechtsanwalts GmbH as provisional insolvency administrator.

According to a press release from the law firm, the sports and bicycle retailer’s business operations will continue in full, both stationary and online, as will the bicycle repair shop. The salaries of the 44 employees are secured for three months through the insolvency benefit.

The insolvency administrator cites “ongoing consumer restraint, rising costs and price pressure in retail” as the reasons for the imbalance. In addition, a fire last year put a strain on the financial situation. “This mixed situation ultimately led to liquidity problems,” it is said.

Managing director Marcel Altenfelder explains: “Given the financial situation, we had to act now and submit an application. Our sports store is a traditional company. We will now examine all options together with the insolvency administrator to find a sustainable solution. We hope that customers will continue to shop in the store and support us in this difficult phase.”
