Rowing in the Alberthafen, Speed Climbing in front of the Frauenkirche and archery at the Semperoper: In addition to visual backdrops, the finals in Dresden delivered a total of 133 German championship decisions on four days – and have set up a record record.

More than 250,000 people visited the multisport event in the Saxon state capital, the organizers announced on Monday.

“There was a great atmosphere in the city. Many flows of people who made a pilgrimage from one to the other,” summed up Dresden Mayor Dirk Hilbert: “We could have built twice as many spectator capacities on many arenas if it had been possible somehow.”

The athletics stadium was sold out on both weekends with more than 10,000 spectators. For some sports facilities such as gymnastics, athletics or fencing, you had to buy tickets, other sports facilities were visible free of charge. A total of 20 sports were represented.

Speed climber Leander Carmanns also provided a sporting record. The Düsseldorf team is the first German to undermine the magical limit of five seconds.

“I have never had such a mood in a national competition,” said the 20-year-old, who had conquered the 15-meter-high wall in 4.95 seconds. Sprint-Ace Gina Lückenkemper also “really spoiled” the mood in the stadium in its 100-meter triumph.

The event also arrived excellently with the television viewers. According to the sports show, over two million people at the same time pursued the broadcasts of ARD and ZDF.

Dresden was an “excellent host”, said Hanover Mayor Belit Onay. “We take a lot of impressions to Hanover and are already looking forward to the 2026 finals with us.”

From July 23 to 26, 2026, 23 sports will have their German championships in Lower Saxony’s state capital. Among other things, sports such as beach volleyball, speed windsurfing and the Japanese martial arts Ju-Jutsu are new.
