At the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, another five competitions will start on the second day of competition.

After the classifications on Sunday, the open water swimmers in Grünau went for medals on Monday. There was gold right away: the Berliner Kai-Jürgen Pönisch (25) won the 1500 meter competition.

The sailors set sail on Monday in the Wannsee, the riders overcome the first hurdles in the riding club at the Olympic Park. Next door, on the August-Bier-Platz, the futsal players play their first games.

At the Berlin Exhibition Center, the judoka as well as the active in the power triathlon will be at the start. The golfers make their debut in Bad Saarow.

A total of 26 sports for the 6,500 athletes from 176 nations are on the program for the World Games for the mentally handicapped and those with multiple disabilities until June 25th.

While in most sports the classifications are still being made so that athletes or teams of comparatively equal strength compete against each other in the final rounds, the games for the open water swimmers ended on Monday.
