Special corona rules in the making for the carnival days

There will probably be special corona rules for the carnival period. The mayors fear that keeping a distance, forming groups on the street and closing time of the catering industry can hardly be maintained in those days. Minister of Justice Dilan Yesilgöz will discuss this on Monday with Mayor Jack Mikkers of Den Bosch and his colleagues Annemarie Penn-te Strake (Maastricht) and Hubert Bruls (Nijmegen).

Carnival is from Saturday 26 February to Tuesday 1 March. At that time, all catering establishments must close their doors at ten o’clock in the evening. Group formation is also undesirable and one and a half meters must be kept away.

But carnival-goers rush arm in arm and walk in groups on the street. The parades have already been canceled almost everywhere, but carnival will certainly be celebrated in bars, the mayors think.

Clarity as soon as possible
They want to provide clarity as soon as possible about what is and is not allowed during carnival. The mayors also want to draw a line, so that carnivalists do not flock to the municipality where they have the most freedom.

Mikkers is at the meeting on behalf of the province of North Brabant, Penn-te Strake represents Limburg and Bruls Gelderland-South, the Achterhoek and other places where carnival is celebrated. The three mayors will talk to Yesilgöz on Monday, prior to the Security Council.
