Special awards for Haller, Füllkrug and Gündogan

There were numerous awards at this year’s “Sport Bild” awards, which took place on Monday in Hamburg. Among others, BVB striker Sebastien Haller, Werder star Niclas Füllkrug and Ilkay Gündogan received awards. The latter was named Star of the Year.

Together with his former colleague at Borussia Dortmund and new teammate Robert Lewandowski, the newcomer to Spanish top club FC Barcelona traveled to Hamburg and attended the award ceremony in the fish auction hall.

“It was nice to see the sparkle in his eyes when he talked about the club. That was confirmation again that it’s a great step,” said the 32-year-old about the talks before his move Lewandowski of the German Press Agency. In 2012 he became German champion and DFB Cup winner together with Lewandowski.

The midfielder was recently voted Germany’s footballer of the year by a journalists’ vote organized by the magazine “kicker”. “To be mentioned in the same breath as so many great footballers is a great honor for someone who has been playing abroad for years,” said Gündogan. Last season he won the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup with former club Manchester City.

Haller receives special prize

The magazine “Sport Bild” presented the awards for the 21st time. Several guests – including Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Thomas Müller, Matthias Sammer, Lewandowski, Lothar Matthäus and Felix Magath – were honored as “Legends” of the Bundesliga on the 60th anniversary.

National player Niclas Füllkrug from Werder Bremen was honored as “promoter of the year”. Sebastién Haller from Borussia Dortmund received the special prize from the editor-in-chief for defeating cancer. The German national ice hockey team was honored as the “surprise of the year” for their World Cup silver medal.
