The Spaniard Alex Palou won the legendary 500 miles from Indianapolis for the first time.

At the annual highlight of the IndyCar season, the 28-year-old, who won the 2021 and 2023 and 2024 championship, celebrated a victory on a oval course for the first time on Sunday. Due to his fifth success in the sixth season race, the pilot from Chip Ganassi Racing storms towards his fourth title.

After 200 laps in front of 400,000 spectators on the famous Oval, Palou prevailed at the 109th edition of the classic just before the former Formula 1 pilot Marcus Ericsson, the Swede had triumphed in 2022. The American David Malukas finished third.

“What an incredible race. I can’t believe that I was here and win,” said Palou at Fox Sports: “At times I felt very good in the race, but I was not sure if I could overtake Marcus Ericsson.”
