Southern Iran rocked by major earthquakes

The south of Iran was again shaken by two major earthquakes on Saturday. According to the national media, the first had a strength of 5.7, the next a little later was slightly heavier, 5.8. The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Institute kept it at a magnitude of 5.5.

According to the Iranian authorities, there are no reports of serious damage or casualties. Nevertheless, it has been decided to send rescue teams to the affected area in advance. The earthquakes were in Hormozgan province. A 6.1 quake was recently registered there, resulting in five deaths and 49 injuries. The epicenters of Saturday’s were 50 and 70 kilometers northeast of the port city of Bandar Lengeh on the Persian Gulf.
