Moore’s book “Sonic Life” will be published on October 24th.
Thurston Moore has said he would never completely rule out a reunion of his band Sonic Youth (1981-2011). The founding member of the former noise rock institution was actually supposed to be on the road to present his new memoir “Sonic Life”. However, he had to cancel the book tour for health reasons, as the Englishman by choice informed his followers on Instagram:
“To all my dear friends and family, I am very sorry to have to share the news that I have been advised by my medical team here in the UK to cancel my upcoming US book tour. I have been struggling with a long-term health condition for years, but it has never seriously stopped me from touring and recording.”
Still, it’s always been a fundamental problem, “and as I’m hitting my mid-60s this year, it’s become pretty debilitating, all the time. After a recent consultation, my doctors strongly advised me not to fly anywhere until they got everything under control,” the 65-year-old wrote.
“Like the Beatles – better not a reunion”
In an interview with the “New York Times” He explained when asked about a possible Sonic Youth reunion: “Everyone wants us to get back together. I don’t see that coming because it might be a little too difficult to accomplish now… and goes against what the band stood for. I would see us more like the Beatles – and that we never get back together.” Nevertheless, Moore emphasized that a reunion of the band would be “very worthwhile” and would “always be an option”.
A possible sticking point for a reunion could be the fact that Moore and his ex-wife Kim Gordon would have to play in the same band. It is said that the singer and guitarist left his wife and bassist because he cheated more and more often and finally fell in love with another woman: the publisher Eva Prinz, with whom he is now in a relationship.
But Moore is conciliatory: “We are adults. We could find peace in such a situation. We are very close in our family with my daughter and my nieces and so on. It’s not like we hate each other.”
Moore on his illness: “worrying”
Moore also spoke about his health, as Brooklyn Vegan reports. He has suffered from atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm disorder, for years. “But this year it got a little worrying,” he admitted. “There were times when I felt so weak that I could barely walk around the neighborhood.” Fortunately, he expects information about treatment soon and said the prognosis looks very good.
