Songwriter André Hazes Jr. confesses: ‘Fan of Gavin DeGraw’

It seems no coincidence that André Hazes Jr.’s new song sounds like a copy of the Gavin DeGraw hit Fire. One of his lyricists turns out to be a big fan. “This is a catastrophe.”

It looks like André Hazes Jr. is in quite a bit of trouble now that his new song Deel Van Mij seems to be a copy of the Gavin DeGraw hit Fire. According to music connoisseur Ronald Molendijk, André can only avoid a lawsuit with financial compensation. “The chord progression, key, tempo and melody line are unmistakably similar.”

Fan of Gavin

It may of course be a coincidence, but that chance has become a bit smaller after a discovery by Yvonne Coldewijer. She brings up an old interview with one of André’s copywriters. This Hansen Tomas told De Stentor in 2008 that he is busy writing songs.

Hansen: “We held a writer’s week, looking for the Hansen Tomas sound. We also tried to approach the American sound of Gavin DeGraw, for example. I am very satisfied with it. I am curious what the rest of the Netherlands thinks about it.”

Catastrophe

This looks very bad for André, says Yvonne. “Hansen Thomas, together with Billy Dans, is André’s new writing team. What seems? Hansen Thomas is a huge fan of none other than… Gavin DeGraw. OMGGGGG.”

“Hans was also an artist himself. In the interview it is said that his own songs were even written with the aim of approaching the Gavin DeGraw sound. 🤣 This is really a CATASTROFE. André is really f*cked.”

Ahoy concert

André himself has not yet responded to the matter. He did announce today that he will give a concert in the Rotterdam Ahoy on Saturday 25 November.

A nice prospect for André. And for Rachel. She finally gets a pat on the head again.
