Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur reached the semi-finals of the English League Cup thanks to a stroke of genius from Heung-Min Son.
In the home game against Manchester United they scored a wild 4:3 (1:0). The Londoners dominated for a long time thanks to Dominic Solanke’s brace, but almost gave up a 3-0 lead.
When United were pushing for an equalizer and extra time shortly before the end with the score at 3-2, Son provided clarity with a directly converted corner (88th). Another goal from Johnny Evans wasn’t enough for Manchester (90+5).

In the 15th minute, United’s cup keeper Altay Bayindir let a shot from Tottenham’s Pedro Porro bounce back, and Solanke took the lead. After the break it became one-sided. The Swede Dejan Kulusevski (46th) and again Solanke (54th) made Tottenham dream of the semi-finals. But a triple substitution by Ruben Amorim including goals from jokers Joshua Zirkzee (63′) and Amad Traore (70′) brought tension once again. When only United were still playing, Son decided the game with rarity.
On Wednesday, Liverpool FC, Arsenal FC and Newcastle United had already made it to the semi-finals. Arne Slot’s team trembled into the next round with a 2-1 (2-0) win against bottom team FC Southampton, while the Gunners beat Crystal Palace 3-2 (0-1) thanks to a hat trick from Gabriel Jesus. Newcastle triumphed 3-1 (2-0) over Brentford FC.
