New basic battery options are available for the existing Rivian electric car models. The range should be higher.

Rivian expands product range
Rivian is an American electric car manufacturer based in Plymouth, Michigan. The manufacturer currently offers two electric car models, the R1S SUV and the R1T pick-up. Another model, the R2, has already been announced.
Rivian also expanded the battery configuration options of its existing models. In addition to the two previous battery packs, Large with 135 kWh and Max with 149 kWh, customers will be provided with two further selectable options: Standard and Standard+.
Fourth battery option increases range for standard option
As Electrek reports, the Standard+ option – compared to Standard – could be associated with more range. The price here is between standard and large. According to Rivian, the standard package has 106 kWh and a range of up to 367 kilometers, but Standard+ comes with 121 kWh and a range of up to 429 kilometers. This means that customers who have their vehicle equipped with the new battery option can travel up to 62 kilometers further than with the standard option.
ADAC examines actual range
The question of range is actually one of the most important for those interested in electric cars. Since the manufacturer’s information often deviates from the actual results, the ADAC automobile club regularly carries out range tests. Most recently, the BMW iX xDrive 50 was the range winner with 610km, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ Electric Art came in second with 575 kilometers, followed by the Hyundai Ioniq 6 (77.4 kWh) UNIQ package 2WD with 555 kilometers. Tesla’s Model 3 covered 415 kilometers in the test. For comparison: Rivian’s Max Pack is now said to offer a range of 643 kilometers, according to Rivian itself.
