Soccer 2. Bundesliga: Eintracht Braunschweig and 1. FC Nürnberg draw

As of: September 23, 2023 2:57 p.m

Eintracht Braunschweig remains in the basement of the 2nd Bundesliga. The Lower Saxony team saved at least one point against 1. FC Nürnberg in a 2-2 (1-2) draw. Thanks to their veteran Anthony Ujah.

Ujah scored twice for Eintracht. First he gave Eintracht the lead (29′), after Nuremberg had taken the lead through Kanji Okunuki (38′) and Benjamin Goller (40′), he equalized to make it 2-2 in the 65th minute.

Nuremberg impresses in a playful way

Kellerkind Eintracht Braunschweig was already under a lot of pressure before the game – they definitely needed a three-pointer in front of their home crowd in order not to completely lose touch with the middle of the table.

Accordingly, the “Lions” approached the matter aggressively, but were thwarted early on by the elegant and playfully strong performance of the Nuremberg team. For their part, they had the greater share of the game in the first few minutes, before Braunschweig staged the first hot scene after a good quarter of an hour.

Braunschweig leads, Nuremberg turns the game around

In any case, shrill whistles echoed through the stadium when referee Florian Heft allowed the game to continue after Nuremberg’s Ivan Marquez had hit the ball in his own 16 (19th). But the postponement was not canceled – a little later, Eintracht celebrated: Anton Donkor had crossed from the right and found veteran Anthony Ujah in the middle, who headed it in in the 29th minute to make it 1-0.

Eintracht seemed to be on track – but appearances were deceptive. Nuremberg came back. And twice: Kanji Okunuki equalized after a pass from Tim Handwerker in the 38th minute and two minutes later the FCN even took the lead: Benjamin Goller took advantage of a fatal Braunschweig defensive mistake and scored to make it 1-2 (40th).

Eintracht complicated for a long time

As a result, the Lower Saxony team were lucky that the guests did not take advantage of the confusion that had arisen in their defense and added to the score before half-time. After the break, the hosts came back onto the field with renewed vigor.

Eintracht tried hard, but hardly found any opportunities against disciplined guests. Despite all possession of the ball, Eintracht’s game was far too transparent and complicated to really cause any danger.

So another individual action was needed: Ujah received the ball in an exemplary manner in the 65th minute, shook off guard Marquez and hit the ball from 13 meters into the far corner – 2:2. One point was saved – but Eintracht remained stuck in the basement of the table.
