Today a snowstorm rages over the province, transforming the landscape into a winter wonder world. Although the snow is still falling around noon, the worst is over. “In the west the snow is already decreasing, in the east it will continue for a while,” says Matthijs van der Linden of Weerplaza.

In the west of the province, dry periods occasionally occur and a few loose flakes still flutter. In the east it will continue to snow for a few more hours, but there too it will gradually calm down. The strong southerly wind means that the perceived temperature is well below zero, so a thick coat and gloves are not an unnecessary luxury.

Little visibility
This morning the snow blew horizontally over the roads and roofs and fields were covered in a thick white blanket. “Then you really can’t see anything in front of your eyes,” says Van der Linden. Fortunately, the storm is now slowly moving away.

It is a special winter day, Van der Linden emphasizes: “We don’t often see so much snow across the country.” For Wednesday that means plenty of winter fun, but drive carefully and wrap yourself up well.

More snow
Winter weather will continue for the rest of the week. Snow and sleet will fall again on Thursday, especially in the east of the province. It will be quite cold during the weekend: the night leading up to Sunday, the temperature can even drop towards minus 10 degrees locally. It remains cold during the day, with fields of cloud, although the chance of winter sunshine is greatest on Sunday.

So keep your hat and scarf at hand, because it will remain very winter in the coming days.
