Snoop Dogg released a new album on May 15 – Iz it a crime is already the 21st record of the rapper. He also gives his fans 21 new songs with features by Pharrell Williams, Sexyy Red, Wiz Khalifa, Charlie Bereal, Jane Handcock, October London and many more. He had announced the whole thing just a few hours before the release. The title track includes – how should it be otherwise – SADES HIT “Is it a crime” from 1985.
“As a musician, you can make music until you die”
On Wednesday (May 14th), the rapper was a guest in the “The Breakfast Club” podcast and told more about how he is still inspired in the rap game after so many years to make new music. “I am MC and love to rap and make music. People love my voice and it is happy when I do great records. If I don’t do good records, people let me know,” said the 53-year-old.
Although it is one of the most successful rappers in the USA, he seems to be more than just defined: “I hear all of this and say to myself: ‘I should treat myself like a musician and not like a rapper.’ As a musician, you can make music until you die.
Even if Snoop Dogg, as he seems to say himself, is no longer one of the younger rappers, he is currently regularly releasing new music. His last record Missionary in cooperation with Dr. Dre did not appear until the end of 2024.
There is a visual accompaniment for every song for every song
The Californian also published a film with the same title for the album. The first preview is said to have taken place at a private party. In the meantime, he already shared the one-hour video on his YouTube channel.
Snoop Dogg not only provides a new album to listen, but also a visual staging for every track of the plate. Older interview excerpts from the rapper are repeatedly recorded between the songs. This shows recordings between the songs “Can’t Wait” and “Can’t Get Enough” in which the musician talks about his long -time partner and wife Shante Broadus.
In the subsequent song he raps: “Even when we fight and you get on my last nerve / i just can’t get kennough of you.” (In German: “Even if we argue and you get on my nerves / I just can’t get enough of you.”)
