You certainly know that: If you come home from a concert or a party, you are usually so scratched up that you can hardly think of sleep. And then you wallow in bed from one side and make everything worse. But even in everyday life, many people suffer from sleep problems and a restless or easy sleep. Instead of feeling relaxed and rested the next morning, you are geared and bad. That doesn’t have to be, because there are gadgets that should help to sleep better. We introduce you to the best of it.
Sleeping better with noise masking
Admittedly, it sounds bizarre to counteract annoying noises with other noises, because the “noise masking” or noise masking works in the same way. The idea behind it is simple. Regardless of whether you keep thin walls, loud neighbors, cars, snoring bed partners or other noises: Noise Masking creates a permanent sound that helps your brain switch off. Other noises are either not perceived or less clearly perceived.
Imagine it like this: You are in a dark room and someone turns on a flashlight again and again. The light of the flashlight is bright and annoying. Now imagine the same situation, only that this time other lights are switched on in the room. The clipping and cutting out of the flashlight is perceived as much less disturbing and ideally even not perceived. Noise Masking works similarly, just with noises.
Lectrofan Evo
The Lectrofan Evo is a compact loudspeaker that does not take up much space on your bedside table. It has white, pink and red noise in various frequency areas. This is good because people perceive noises differently and therefore there is no “universal noise” that is suitable for all people for noise masking. Here is a short comparison.
White noise:
White noise is spread across the entire sound spectrum, including low, medium and high frequencies. It can be compared with the sound of a waterfall, in which the water falls at different speeds and meets different surfaces.
Pink noise:
Rosa noise is louder at the low -frequency end of the spectrum and softer at the top. Pink noise is comparable to light to medium rain showers.
Red noise:
Red noise is even deeper and stronger at the lower end and without the high -frequency tones of white and pink rustling. It is comparable to a surf during a storm.
In addition to noise, the Lectrofan Evo also has various fan noises and also offers two sea noise sounds. In total, the Lectrofan Evo has 22 different tones that are completely digital and without repetitions. This is important, because if a sound is only repeated in continuous loop, your brain will at some point and literally wait for the repeating tones and noises. And that, in turn, prevents you when you fall asleep.

The Noise-Masking speaker Lectrofan Evo offers a simple design with easily accessible buttons on the betting top. With these buttons you can change tones and volume and activate a timer function with which the speaker automatically switches off after a certain time. Alternatively, it runs through until you switch it off manually. There is also a headphone connection on the right. The Lectrofan Evo does not have unnecessary extras such as Bluetooth or a smartphone app.
If you have a particularly easy sleep, you can also combine the Lectrofan Evo with earopax. You have to increase the volume for this, but that shouldn’t be a problem if you have no roommates/sleepers.
Sleeping better with noise canceling
Quieton Sleep

Noise Masking can be very helpful to sleep better, many people feel the noises in the long run. Active noise suppression is even better, as is known from Bluetooth headphones. The Finnish company Quieton has set itself the goal of using noise-canceling technology for better sleep and therefore developing the Quieton Sleep. These are small in-ear headphones that combine passive noise insulation with active noise suppression and which automatically switch on as soon as they are removed from the case and then offer a battery life of 20 hours, which is more than enough even for absolute slackers.
Visually, the Quieton Sleep remind a little of true wireless in-ears, but they are much smaller and more compact and are therefore also ideal for side sleepers after getting used to the first nights. Because although the Quieton Sleep sit very comfortably in the ear, press lightly when you sleep on the side. And that requires a familiarization period of a few days. How strong the pressure is also depends on various factors, for example how big the ears are, how the Quieton Sleep sit in the ear and how soft or hard the pillow is.
Passive noise insulation meets active noise suppression
In order to make active noise suppression particularly effective, the Quieton Sleep have an external microphone and the technology used is called “Feed Forward Active Noise Cancelling” and the advantage over “Feedback Active NOISE CANELLING” – a technique in which the microphone is internal – is that higher frequencies can be blocked. The Quieton Sleep still work most effectively with low-frequency tones-a peculiarity that, by the way, has all headphones with ANC technology. With the combination of passive and active noise suppression, the Quieton Sleep are particularly effective-provided, of course, of course, you test all three sizes of the included earplugs made of memory foam. According to the manufacturer, these should last for several months, but have to be replaced regularly, which causes follow -up costs. A pack of three pairs replacement earplugs in a size costs im Quieton online shop 16.50 euros. Upon request, however, we were informed that the models T-100, T-100 and T-15 from the manufacturer should also be compatible with the Quieton Sleep.

Button to switch
Once you have used the Quieton Sleep correctly, disturbing outer noises (loud neighbors, the busy street, snoring partners …) are effectively hidden and there is immediately silence when you wear the Quieton Sleep. Despite the earplugs, of course, you still hear the alarm clock and in the event that you want to perceive your surroundings again without removing the Quieton Sleep from the ear canal, there is a practical button to switch the mode. Once pressed, the outer microphones let noise on the ear, so that you can easily talk to your partner, for example. The button is deliberately a little stiff so that it is not accidentally pressed in your sleep when you are on the side.

Charging in the case
Incidentally, the robust case not only serves to store the Quieton Sleep, but the earplugs are also charged as soon as you connect the case to a micro USB cable. At the same time, this is also one of our biggest criticisms, because it is a shame that Quieton does not use the new USB-C standard, which is now being used for more and more devices and smartphones. So you have to take two cables with you again if you take the Quieton Sleep while traveling. The enclosed micro USB cable could also be longer, because it is only a few centimeters short.
Conclusion
The Quieton Sleep It is ideal for all resources, since disturbing ambient noise disappear very efficiently or are minimized. The combination of passive noise insulation and active noise suppression works really excellently and thanks to the long battery life of 20 hours, you don’t have to worry that the Quieton Sleep suddenly no longer work during sleep. The daily shop also does not apply because you have enough electricity for at least two nights.

You have to get used to the comfort, because the hard plastic housing of the Quieton Sleep can press disturbing on the ear, especially in the first nights, if you are a side sleeper. A softer, rubber -like material for the inside of the Quieton Sleep or a silicone sector might have been the better choice. It is also a shame that the loading case only has a micro USB connection and does not rely on USB-C.
The Quieton Sleep is available until 14.02.2020 at a special price of 199 euros. The regular price is 219 euros and in addition there are follow -up costs of 16.50 euros for new earplugs, which have to be changed every few months. However, if you have tried noise -masking products and have already tried all other earplugs – from Ohropax to silicone plugs – and simply does not find a quiet sleep, the Quieton Sleep is well advised.

Sleeping better with complete darkness
Finally, a simple, but effective tip: Light can also disturb your sleep and if you have problems with it, you should use a sleep mask. These are already available for a few euros in the drugstore, but also have some disadvantages:
- They are often uncomfortable
- They don’t fit for every head shape
- You still let the light through
Especially those who have a large/wide nose will find normal sleep masks uncomfortable, but luckily there is also a solution here: the “Hommini sleeping mask” has adjustable eye cushions and can therefore be ideally adjusted to your own head shape. And it is also very soft, eyes can breathe and even in summer it doesn’t get hot under the sleep mask. And it is also suitable for people with a wide nose.

The scope of delivery also includes a practical storage bag and a few earplugs for an even better sleep.
