Slalom in Zagreb: Dürr is eliminated – Shiffrin before the 81st World Cup victory

Status: 01/04/2023 1:51 p.m

Bitter start to the year for Lena Dürr: The Bavarian was eliminated after the first round of the slalom in Zagreb. Mikaela Shiffrin is in the lead.

The conditions in Zagreb were very difficult, and for a long time it was not clear whether the slalom could be held at all. The slope was a challenge for the runners due to the high temperatures.

Mikaela Shiffrin did best on the soft slope – she completed the Crveni Spust in 48.93 seconds. At the finish, the American was 0.23 seconds ahead of Anna Swenn Larsson of Sweden. Petra Vlhova of Slovakia is third, 0.55 seconds behind.

Historic triumph draws closer for Shiffrin

For Shiffrin it could be the fourth win in a row. It would then be the 81st overall success in the World Cup. The American would then only be separated by one win from her compatriot Lindsey Vonn, who retired in 2019 and leads the all-time list of women with 82 wins.

Dürr eliminated with an intermediate best time

Lena Dürr did not get off to a good start in the new year. The Bavarian made it onto the podium in the last slalom in 2022 in Semmering and wanted to take the momentum to Zagreb. The 31-year-old was very good with an intermediate best time. When entering the final part, however, Dürr was completely at an angle and was able to prevent a direct elimination, but she had to climb back up the slope – a good time was gone.

Three DSV runners in the 2nd run

Emma Aicher finished 20th, 2.98 seconds behind. Andrea Filser (+3.11/22nd) and Jessica Hilzinger (+3.27/24th) are also in the final.
