Skiing on a fresh layer of snow in the dunes: “You really get that winter sports feeling”

They call themselves the Skimates, a group of fanatical ladies and one gentleman who can be found every week on the brush track of Il Primo in Bergen. For fun, but also in preparation for the skiing holiday in the mountains. And with a layer of ‘real snow’ that is just that little bit more fun.

“This is a lottery ticket,” says ski instructor Angeline Jehenson, who has been teaching since 1989. She says she enjoys the fact that a fresh layer of snow has now fallen: “It now looks even more like winter sports. It’s a picture.”

The students also enjoy it to the fullest. “You really get that winter sports feeling,” says Ypie Folkerts, who has been skiing for years ski club Il Primo. “I mainly do it to keep practicing my technique. I’m almost seventy, but I still try to keep up with my grandchildren. If I succeed, that’s a kick.”
