The DSV eagles have been in a low in shape for weeks. At the World Cup in Lake Placid, the German ski jumping team achieved the worst results in 14 years. However, Icon Jens Weißflog believes that it is currently not the right time to be discussed by national coach Stefan Horngacher.

For the DSV-eagles, things have recently been extremely disappointing in ski jumping. The home game in Willingen two weeks ago no German ended in the top 10. Pius Paschke, who started so well in the winter and has hardly managed anything in the past few weeks, even missed the second round than 31. In Lake Placid, too, the DSV men just jumped afterwards.

Discussions about national coach Stefan Horngacher, who succeeded his compatriot Werner Schuster in 2019, but DSV sports director Horst Hüttel swept off the table at an early stage. “There would be a risk in a change, so for us it is not the topic,” he told the “ARD”.

Ski jumping: coaching discussions currently “Fore to place”

Ski jumping icon Jens Weißflog also believes that a change in the national coach position would currently come at the wrong time. The coaching question is “out of place at the moment,” said the 60-year-old in conversation with “Sport1”. One of the Austrians at the end of the season may be discussed, the triple Olympic champion made it clear.

“Such a question can be asked at the end of the season. I currently see this as premature,” said Weißflog, referring to the Nordic Ski World Cup, which is held between February 26 and March 9 in Lillehammer in Norweg. Horngacher has an indefinite contract with the DSV.

Before the beginning of the season, the association had emphasized that he wanted to continue with the 55-year-old at least until the 2026 Olympics. It is not known whether the current crisis has changed something about this project.
