The suit scandal continues to shake the ski jumping scene. DSV-Adler Karl Geiger looks at his podium coup in Oslo in his Sport.de column and the eventful days in ski jumping. He demands information, but no legend formation.
We sit at the airport in Oslo and wait for boarding. The RAW Air is in our bones, but we can draw a positive sporting balance. In the overall ranking I can look at an 8th place and I am very happy with the podium in Oslo, especially with the podium.
I was able to better adjust to the ski jumps in Oslo and Vikersund than on the Großchanze in Trondheim, had better access to “my jump” again and am confident for the two remaining weeks in the season.
The dominant topic of the ski jumps is of course still the behavior of the well -known Norwegians at the World Cup in Trondheim. The fraud was clearly and specifically admitted by the team management and the FIS reacted in particular with the suspension of the athletes. In addition, the competition suit was controlled by all athletes on site, collected, spent on the competition and collected again after the competition, so that there was no room for manipulations. Further information will be carried out in investigations that must be seen.
We have to do everything we can to enlighten the flawless. In the event of intentional regulations with the intention of providing a competitive advantage, it must be tough. The athletes and our spectators must be able to rely on fair sport without manipulation.
It is known that all teams optimize materials in terms of materials in terms of the rules; This is daily in other sports such as in Formula 1. Materials are tested, aerodynamic shapes tried etc. This is allowed and also desired.
With our comprehensive set of rules, there are certainly areas that open up scope for action. I remember the Simon Amann case, which used such a scope in which he jumped with a curved staff when binding, which obviously brought advantages. Simon was innovative and even brought ski jumping further.
Geiger wants clarity and education
However, if there is a violation of clearly defined rules, with forbidden tightening components such as stiffeners, sewing and reinforcements, this is a fundamental violation of the rules. Knowingly has been driven by several red traffic lights and then you rightly take the driver out of traffic.
In the discussions, I am currently too mixed with the rules that comply with the rules and the violent manipulation. I would like clarity and education, but no legend formation and general suspicion of a whole sport.
Kind regards
Karl Geiger
