Worldwide glaciers shrink at an alarming pace, with major consequences for, among other things, the sea level rise. Since the beginning of the 21st century we have lost no less than 6,500 billion tonnes of ice. A recent study in ‘Nature’, for example, shows in which 35 teams of scientists participated. Glaciologist Lander van Tricht explains the disturbing results. “The amount of ice that disappears annually corresponds to the total water consumption of the world population over a period of thirty years.”
