The perpetrator – Hassan Al D. – apologized. “I thought I saw some kind of vulnerability,” Uzma reflects. “But I don’t believe him. I think his excuses are based on where he is now, on the life he has to lead in prison. That’s how I feel.”
Uzma snapped fierce words at the perpetrator, cries born from a mix of anger, sadness and powerlessness. “Don’t be afraid, I’m not going to do anything crazy.”
Already three years without Dani
She has now had to do it without her brother for three years. “He was so sweet. I don’t know anyone in my life who was like that with me, like he was,” she said before.
The days still feel like a heavy blanket. For her and for her family. “The loss only increases. This should never have happened. My brother should just be in my life. The more time passes, the more it becomes a memory. I find that very scary. For example, that I will no longer remember what his voice sounded like.”
No matter how hard it is for her, she fights for at least one thing: “I want him to be talked about as long as possible.”
