Apple is increasingly under pressure: After large-scale promises to new Siri AI functions, the company had to admit a delay. Expert John Gruber sees Apple’s credibility massively damaged.

Apple faces a new challenge that goes far beyond weak iPhone sales. According to the renowned Apple blogger John Gruber, the company “wasted” its credibility by making non-durable promises about the new Siri AI functions. This allegation could have long -term effects.

Apple’s Siri functions: large announcements, massive delays

Apple presented its initiative Apple Intelligence in June 2024 and promised a significantly improved Siri. The voice assistant should be able to work more context -related and process personal information. But despite great announcements, the functionality failed to materialize.

In September 2024 Apple again advertised the Siri improvements with the new iPhone generation. The company showed scenarios in commercials in which Siri answered complex questions. But now Apple has confirmed to Gruber that the promised features should only appear “in the course of the coming year” – and took the commercials offline again.

Gruber, operator of the blog “Daring Fireball”, sharply criticizes this practice and sees Apple’s credibility as damaged. “” Damaged ‘may be too weak, “Gruber wrote in his blog post. “It was wasted. That didn’t just happen to Apple. The decision -makers in the company caused it themselves.” It is particularly serious that Apple used these functions as a sales argument for the iPhone 16.

Apple’s credibility on the test bench

According to Marketwatch, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook emphasized in a question-and-answer round with analysts, which followed the telephone conference on the quarterly results: “We tend to announce things when they come on the market, and that is our approach”. But the delayed Siri functions do not fit this strategy. Gruber therefore asks the question: “Who decided that these functions should be included in the WWDC keynote with the promise that they would be released in the coming year, even though they were in such an unfinished state that they could not even be shown to the media in a controlled environment?”

The blogger refers to an older report by Fortune and moves parallels to Steve Jobs’ response to the failed e-mail service Mobileme 2008. At that time, jobs is said to have sharply criticized his employees because the product did not work as promised. Gruber wonders whether Apple today goes to court with itself. According to Bloomberg, Apple executives actually described the delay in a meeting with employees as “unsightly” and “embarrassing” – especially because Apple had previously publicly advertised the functions.

Investors in turmoil: Apple share in the downward trend?

The market reaction was clear. After Apple confirmed the shift towards Gruber on March 7, 2025, the share lost over 10 percent within a few days. Nevertheless, some analysts remain optimistic. According to Marketwatch: “Rome was not built in one day-and Apple’s AI strategy was not built either. But the basics of this strategy with Apple Intelligence are not laid and will significantly shape Apple’s growth in the coming years”. It remains to be seen whether Apple succeeds in regaining lost trust.
