Jannik Sinner has again reached the round of 16 of the US Open. In the middle of the game against Denis Shapovalov there was a strange incident.
With a fighting spirit and patience, Jannik Sinner played in the second week at the US Open. The defending champion prevailed in the third round with 5: 7, 6: 4, 6: 3, 6: 3 against Denis Shapovalov, but also received his first set loss in the course of the tournament.
“It was a hard match. He started very well, I just tried to stay mentally,” said Sinner after the victory. The 24-year-old was satisfied to be in the round of 16 again: “It is always a good sign that I am still here.”
Sinner, who had caught a virus in the tournament preparation, had problems with his game. He made many mistakes against the left -hander Shapovalov. He gave the first sentence, even in the third round it was initially behind. At 1: 3, he also had to change shoes in the middle of the game. The reason: a torn laces. Then Sinner easily pulled away.
In the round of 16, the four-time Grand Slam winner meets Alexander Buthskin from Kazakhstan. It will not happen to an already expected semi-final duel with Alexander Zverev. In the third round, the German surprisingly flew against the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliasime.
