Sinner had had to give up on Monday in the final of the ATP master in Cincinnati against Carlos Alcaraz after only 23 minutes at 0: 5. The world’s most explained that he felt “just too bad” to continue playing. The four-time Grand Slam winner gave a slight all-clear for the individual tournament in New York from Sunday. He will start when he feels “physically and mentally ready”.
Zverev also showed up, but seems to have become fit in time. He also had to deal with physical problems in Cincinnati.
The mixed competition at the US Open triggers discussions: the tournament was modified and is now carried out on Tuesday and Wednesday in the previous week of the individual competitions. The nomination criteria have also been changed: in addition to the top players of the tour that qualified through their ranking position, there were wildcards, among others for Venus Williams, number 577 in the world. Under these circumstances, there is practically no space for double experts like Laura Siegemund.
