Singer Rob de Nijs admitted to hospital

Singer Rob de Nijs was admitted to hospital on Thursday evening. De Nijs had to be picked up at home by an ambulance. He will be examined on Friday.

His management reported this to the ANP on Friday. Management doesn’t say what’s wrong with him.

The 80-year-old singer is best known for songs like Jan Klaassen the Trumpeter , Malle Babbe , Put a candle in your window tonight , Beer is bitter , It was summer and his only No. 1 hit Scared heart .

De Nijs won a talent show in 1962 and was allowed to make three pictures. The first two flopped. His third album Rhythm of the rain became a blockbuster and Rob de Nijs was an instant teen idol.

The singer received, among other things, an Edison and a Golden Harp for his oeuvre. In 2001 he was awarded the Radio 2 Broadcasting Award. In June last year he concluded his long career with a concert in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam.
