Siewert remains coach at Mainz 05: expiring contract extended

Expiring contract extended

FSV Mainz 05 continues to rely on coach Jan Siewert in the relegation battle. The previous interim coach remains on the sidelines and has also extended his contract, which originally expired at the end of the season, until 2026. The Bundesliga club announced this on Friday. Previously reported the “Picture“newspaper about corresponding plans.

“We analyzed the sporting situation in great detail and in depth and took the necessary time to do so. We are convinced that with Jan Siewert we will achieve our sporting goal of staying in the league and that we have made the best decision for Mainz 05. Jan Siewert has given the team positive impulses, he also enjoys great support from the team and staff, he knows the club and is passionate about this task,” said board member Christian Heidel, commenting on the decision.

Siewert himself said: “I am very happy about the club’s trust, which I have already felt in the past few weeks. We were always in an open exchange with each other. We have a common task ahead of us for our club. I am sure that with the quality of the team, our team spirit and solidarity with our fans and within the club, we will be able to cope with this task.”

Siewert, who was previously coach of the Mainz U23 for around a year and a half, took over the position on an interim basis at the beginning of November following Bo Svensson’s resignation. Under the new coach, the Rheinhessen got seven points from seven games. The club is currently in 16th place with ten points after 16 matchdays – tied with 1. FC Köln and Darmstadt 98 in the direct relegation zone. In the past few weeks, many professionals have already spoken out in favor of further collaboration with Siewert.
