Shots fired during police investigation after burglary

During the night from Friday to Saturday, the Smartgroup telephone shop, located on the corner of Maalse Steenweg and Vredestraat, was broken into. Around 2 a.m., someone from the neighborhood heard a thump and saw some burglars dragging pieces of glass across the street outside.

While the thieves were collecting their loot, the police were already called. A police patrol was very quickly on the spot and was able to catch the perpetrators red-handed. After a chase through gardens in the neighborhood behind, one thief could be caught. For example, a bag with stolen mobile phones and the cash register with its contents could be immediately returned to the owner.

During the arrest, the other thieves were cutting the alarm cables of the mobile phones on display at the time. They were then startled by the alarm and fled.

The police then set up an ambush where they kept the stricken store under observation. Apparently the thieves then returned and shots were even fired in the Toekomststraat. The store itself is in disarray and there is minor damage, the broken shop window has already been nailed shut by the fire brigade. The man says that this is a story with a happy ending. It could have turned out completely differently.
