The world mourns the loss of Pope Francis, who died on Easter Monday (April 21) at the age of 88 from the consequences of a stroke. US Vice President Vance (who visited Francis in the Vatican one day before his death) spoke up, Patti Smith, Merz and Macron. All sorts of celebrities from politics and culture.
And also Jan Böhmermann.
Like hardly imaginable, the satirist could not help but a joke. On Bluesky he wrote the Pope’s death: “Don’t worry, he will come back in three days.”
Böhmermann sets Pope Francis with Jesus
Jan Böhmermann thus alludes to the resurrection of Jesus. The New Testament says: “The son of man will … be killed and on the third day it will be imposed.” (Matthew 16.21).
The resurrection is of central importance for Christians. Jesus has defeated death, there is hope of new, eternal life – the beginning of the new creation. Easter is almost as important as Christmas Eve. Maybe even more important. In his posting, Böhmermann sets Pope Francis with Jesus – that he too resuses after three days.
In addition, there is Francis’ death. Just for Easter Monday. Easter just celebrates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, as described in the Gospels of the New Testament.

Of course, Böhmermann’s saying on social media does not remain uncommented. Even harder on X than on Bluesky. The 44-year-old travels there again.
Most of the comments are somewhere between “Pietätätlos”, “outrageous”, some threaten the comedian by force because he had disparaged the name of God’s Son, who has always campaigned for non -violence.
Others are practicing in Whataboutism, throwing hypocrisy, which they employ pedosexual priests. Others laugh at Joke Jan Böhmermanns. He has not yet added to Pope Francis.
