Shirin David causes a stir at the octagon event – but what’s behind her appearance? Her explanation surprises fans and critics.

“Fight of the night: Shirin David against the beat” – that is the rapper’s humorous comment after her appearance at the MMA martial arts event “OKTAGON 78” on October 18th in Cologne went wrong. When fighter Alina Dalaslan arrived, she performed her hit “Ich dar das”. But David was hard to understand and rapped audibly out of sync.

Audio tracks offset – disagreement with the technical team

After a shitstorm on social media, Shirin David commented on her performance and explained the sound that could be improved. During the sound check, she noticed that what she heard through her in-ear headphones did not match what was coming from the hall’s speakers, she said in an Instagram story. This temporal discrepancy meant that it wasn’t in time – the soundtracks were probably offset, says David. She also shared such a statement on TikTok.

Kollegah also had sound problems

As “t-online” reported, David explained that she had suggested bringing in her own sound engineers. However, the OKTAGON crew assured her that they could fix the problem. This was successful up until the performance, but the problem arose again during the final performance. “They just fucked me,” said the rapper and found further clear words: “I don’t see how you can lay two tracks just like that.” According to Shirin David, fellow rap artist Kollegah, who also performed at the event, also had these sound problems and rapped out of sync – despite playback.

The rapper took the sound glitch with humor: “Fight of the night: Shirin David against the beat,” she wrote in her Instagram story. On October 20, she also posted a post showing off her outfit and wrote, “Maybe I didn’t serve rapping but I’ll always serve a look.”

Fans show support

Her fans also showed understanding: “you weren’t offbeat the beat was off you (sic),” wrote one user. “Sound problem? Never a style problem (sic),” said another. “You still performed abnormally queen, don’t let anyone talk you into it, it still sounded crazy (sic),” commented another user. “It wasn’t that bad.”

The 30-year-old is considered the most successful German rapper. With songs like “I’m allowed to do that,” “Bauch Beine Po” and “We love it,” she has sold around 2.3 million records to date and reached the top of the German charts seven times.
