A very large fire rages on Thursday evening in an apartment complex on Brahmslaan in Eindhoven. There have been several seriously injured. The fire brigade reports ‘possibly an explosion on the balcony’. The fire rages on two floors in different apartments.
Witnesses also say they first heard an explosion, after which the fire flared up. An ANP photographer on site says that the facade of the apartment on the third floor has been beaten
A witness says there were people on the balcony next to the burning apartment where the fire broke out. “There was nothing like fire in that apartment. Those people next to that apartment couldn’t go anywhere, it seemed.”
Multiple floors
The fire brigade is still looking for victims and says ‘difficult to make an estimate about how many injuries there are’. The injured are treated in rushed ambulances. There are seven ambulances on the spot.
The fire broke out around nine o’clock on the third floor of the apartment complex. There is also a fire on the fourth floor. The fire brigade is present with many vehicles. There is a lot of glass around the complex.
A trauma helicopter has landed near the fire. A police helicopter circles circles above the neighborhood. The fire attracts a lot of attention from bystanders.
Scaled up to GRIP-1
Around ten past nine, GRIP-1 was scaled up. If GRIP-1 is announced, several disciplines are involved in combating a fire. Initially, the fire was classified as ‘very large’ by the emergency services.
It is still unclear what exactly happened and what kind of explosion it would go.
