The motorcycle officers who were seriously injured during a chase on the A2 near Eindhoven a month ago are recovering very slowly. This is what police chief Sjoerd Top told Omroep Brabant. “They will take a long time to recover physically.”

Police chief Sjoerd Top says that the blow is still very big for the entire team. “I was able to speak to one of the officers, the other was so seriously injured that I have not been able to do so yet.” The police chief has ‘good hope’ that both officers will one day be able to do their work again. “But the physical recovery will take a long time.”

Car thief
On Wednesday evening, October 29, things went horribly wrong on the A2 near the Batadorp junction. A chase of a car thief, which started in Geldrop, ended in a crash. The driver of the stolen car crashed into two police cars and two motorcycle officers. The driver then drove on and was missing for more than two weeks.

The two motorcycle officers were seriously injured in the crash. One of them had multiple broken bones and other injuries that required multiple surgeries.

Suspicions suspect
After a manhunt, a 41-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested in Turnhout, Belgium. Top is happy that the suspected perpetrator has been arrested and extradited to the Netherlands. The man is suspected of attempted manslaughter, stealing a vehicle, causing an accident with injuries and driving after a collision.

The suspect is also on camera images. After the collision, he left the Ford Fiesta with a German license plate in a residential area in Best. This happened in peace and quiet, as can be seen from the images. He calmly parks his car backwards in a space, takes things from the trunk, walks away calmly, stops briefly to lock the car and then disappears into the residential area.
