The president of the rossoblù has decided to return to coaching the team, after the step back in recent weeks
Gigi Fresco returns to sit on the Virtus Verona bench. The coach, also president of the club, has decided to return to the technical leadership of the team after having taken a step back on March 5th. This was communicated by the club which explains in a note: “Considering that the reasons why he had chosen to downsize his position have no longer existed, Gigi Fresco returns to cover the role of coach of the First Team”. The coach will therefore be supported by Tommaso Chiecchi who will return to the role of deputy and “will continue his work alongside him in the path of the rossoblù team and in the pursuit of seasonal objectives”.

Fresco’s step back in recent weeks was justified by the club as “a choice made in the common interest and for the pursuit of sporting objectives”. A signal, sent to the environment, in an undoubtedly difficult moment for Virtus, in the middle of the relegation zone. In one of our interviews, the coach explained how taking a step back was a necessary choice: “Any coach would have been sacked. We’ve really struggled lately, we’re third from last and we necessarily need a shake-up. It’s an unlucky year. I hope the change will lead us to safety.” The recent death of his mother would also have had an impact on Fresco’s decision to step aside. Twenty days after the choice, however, here is the about-face: the “Ferguson of Italy” returns to the bench.
