Serie B: the results of the thirteenth matchday

Hernani’s expulsion makes the task easier for Bonazzoli’s boys who prevail 3-2. Pandolfi signs the last minute coup of Cittadella in Sicily. Cremonese flies to Brescia

Michele Antonelli

The league leaders fall and make a noise. On Sunday in Serie B, Parma starts off strong, then remains down to ten men and loses in Lecco: the gialloblù remain first, but Venezia is now at -2. Among the top of the class, Cremonese wins and convinces: Stroppa’s team scores the hat-trick against a Brescia in full crisis. Ravanelli, Coda and Okereke lead the Grigiorossi to fourth place next to Modena. At the Barbera they lost and Palermo went out amidst the boos, losing in full injury time against a good Cittadella: Pandolfi’s goal in the 98th minute was decisive. It ends 2-2 between Spezia and Ternana.

Lecco-Parma 3-2

The league leaders progressed after less than a quarter of an hour on a penalty following a foul by Lemmens on Bonny in the area. Benedyczak is glacial from the spot and makes it 1-0. Lecco finds the equalizer halfway through the first half: corner from the right, header by Ionita and touch by Novakovich from two steps. At half an hour, Pecchia’s team remained with ten men due to the expulsion of Hernani (double yellow) after a foul in the middle of the pitch on Degli Innocenti. Lecco then raises their center of gravity to take advantage of the moment and turns everything around just before the break, again with a corner: Lepore crosses, Caporale touches and Buso makes it 2-1. The guests return to the field with some more motivation, but the hosts get the hat trick with Lepore’s beautiful header. Parma accuses, Pecchia tries to wake up his players with substitutions and the substitute Charpentier closes the gap with 20 minutes to go and starts the assault. The consistent recovery is not enough for Parma, who remain first but lose their second match of the season. Bonazzoli’s team is breathing, now fourth last (with one game less).

Brescia-Cremonese 0-3

It was an immediately complicated match for Belingheri, on the Brescia bench on an interim basis following Gastaldello’s dismissal. At Rigamonti, Cremonese’s departure is total. Stroppa’s team goes ahead in the quarter of an hour thanks to a corner: Vazquez hits the post with his head, then Ravanelli scores into an empty net. On the second goal there is the signature of the usual Coda, increasingly top scorer: on the half hour the attacker hits Lezzerini with a header, following a cross from Antov, and reaches 120 goals in Serie B (9 in the current championship). The second half is a formality for the grey-reds, who come close to making it three of a kind on several occasions. It is Okereke, a breath away from the ninetieth, who puts the exclamation point.

Palermo-Cittadella 0-1

Match blocked at Barbera. Corini’s team, fresh from the recovery win against Brescia, tried to dictate the pace at the start. Gorini’s men hold their own and play especially on the counter. In the first half little or nothing happens, while in the second half Cittadella tries with a little more conviction. The guests create some danger in Pigliacelli’s area with Pittarello and Cassano, then it is the new substitute Maistrello who comes close to scoring with his header. The 9′ of injury time light up the finale and Cittadella advances in the 98th minute with Pandolfi’s header, grabbing three golden points in the photo finish to move up to ninth place. The Rosanero, with their third defeat in the last four, remain third but leave amidst boos.

spice-ternana 2-2

Very lively race at the Picco. The confrontation heats up shortly after the half hour mark, with a back-and-forth melee. Ternana passes first: Casasola collects Falletti’s cross with his head and burns Dragowski. Then the hosts respond: Antonucci’s corner, chaos in the area and Bertola’s winning touch on the slide. The Umbrians regained the lead midway through the second half, again with a corner: this time the decisive header came from Diakité, who jumped higher than anyone on another pinpoint cross from Falletti. Alvini goes all out and in the final minutes he fields five strikers. It’s the right move: Spezia grabs the 2-2 with an attack in full injury time and Capuano’s decisive own goal. For the two teams, it is a point that makes little difference: Spezia is third from last on 10 points, Ternana remains second from last on 7.
