With a brilliant performance, SSC Napoli has shot to the top of Serie A. Both Milan and Juventus disappointed.

Juventus lost their feathers for the first time on Matchday 2 of Serie A. With Bundesliga newcomer Filip Kostic as a debutant, Juve couldn’t get past a 0-0 draw at Sampdoria Genoa. The former series champion is striving to return to the Italian football throne after two disappointing years.

Second win for AS Roma

AS Roma clinched their second 1-0 win of the season on Monday. Against promoted US Cremonese, Chris Smalling (65th) ensured the narrow victory of the Jose Mourinho-trained Conference League winner. Smalling dedicated his goal to Dutch newcomer Georginio Wijnaldum, who has been sidelined with a broken tibia and may even miss the World Cup in Qatar.

Naples takes the lead

SSC Napoli celebrate Victor Osimhen’s 2-0 win over AC Monza.

SSC Napoli are still the leaders in Serie A after the second matchday with six points and 9:2 goals. Napoli clearly won 4-0 (2-0) against AC Monza on Sunday (21.08.2022) and are ahead of Inter Milan because of the better goal difference.

Inter had already won 3-0 (1-0) against Spezia Calcio the day before, the goals scored by Leandro Martínez (35th minute), Hakan Çalhanoğlu (52nd) and Joaquin Correa (82nd).

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored twice for SSC Napoli (35′ and 62′), with the other goals coming from Victor Oshimen (45′) and Min-jae Kim (90′).

Bergamo defy Milan draw

On Sunday evening, Naples could be happy again, because competitor AC Milan dropped two points at Atalanta Bergamo. In a thrilling game, the two teams drew 1-1 (1-0), in the end Milan pressed on the three points, but were hardly able to create any real big chances. Ruslan Malinovsky gave Atalanta the lead after 28 minutes, Ismaël Bennacer equalized in the second half (68′).
