The sequence of the matches in the first round will be different from that of the matches in the second round. A match will not have its return until eight more matches have been played. Serie A introduced this system from the 2021-22 season, on the model of the Premier League. The idea was explained thus by the League: “This formula will allow for a better distribution of the challenges, without being conditioned by constraints present in the first leg that may affect the return leg and vice versa”.
