Senkbeil and Bretschneider celebrate winning the cup in Latvia with FK Auda

First title for Stipic’s team

FK Auda have won their first title in club history. The team from Riga’s suburb of Kekava beat defending champions and last year’s champions FK RFS 1-0 (1-0) in the Latvian cup final on Wednesday evening. The winning goal was scored by midfielder Danills Ulimbasevs (30) in the 42nd minute.

The team of trainer Tomislav Stipic, who has already worked for Erzgebirge Aue in Germany, among others, was only promoted to the Virsliga for the 2022 season and will finish fifth in the table. With the success in the cup, FK Auda also secured a place in the European Cup for the first time and will start in the 2023/24 season in the Conference League qualifier. Two German professionals were also able to celebrate the cup triumph.

“We gave it our all today and our courage was rewarded. I think we deserved the win. We’re just super happy,” says Kilian Senkbeil (23), who was on the pitch for 90 minutes, in an interview with Transfermarkt. Niko Bretschneider (23), who was on the bench, added: “An incredible success for us. We’re a super young team with great guys. We qualified for the Conference League qualifier, just great.”
