Seniors in Hoogeveen can continue to read the municipal page in their newspaper

Applications for renovations, felling a tree and holding a neighborhood party will continue to be published in the newspaper by the municipality of Hoogeveen for the time being. Despite an announcement to stop this from this year, the municipality continues to post these messages in the Hoogeveensche Courant and not just on the website.

Stichting Seniorenplatform Hoogeveen was concerned about the disappearance of the announcements in the Hoogeveensche Courant. The municipality had planned to do this to save costs. But for the time being, the municipal page Het Torentje will continue to exist.

The senior platform was afraid that seniors are no longer properly informed about issues going on in their neighborhood. “The information can be found via the internet, but many elderly people still do not have the internet or are not sufficiently skilled to find this information. In this way, it will happen more often that a permit is granted for the felling of a tree, the construction of a shed and all those other things that directly affect a resident in their living environment are missed. You only discover it when it is too late to inform or object.”

The municipality of Hoogeveen then decided to take a closer look at no longer publishing the announcements. “The original intention was to stop the announcements with the introduction of the Environmental Act, prompted by the cutback plans in 2020. Now that this final date has come into view, the council wants to reconsider no longer publishing. Until then time, the announcements are published every week in the Hoogeveensche Courant.”
