Sénéchal reveals nasty detail after Paris-Roubaix: ‘Fan threw urine all over me’ | cycling

Sénéchal was with the group of favourites, but had a hard fall at Mons-en-Pévèle. The Frenchman did get back on his bike, but the dream of Hell classic to win was gone. To add to the disappointment, he was later smeared with…urine.

“I was driving on the cobblestone section from Cysoing to Bourghelles with Alexander Kristoff when I felt something splash on my arm,” Sénéchal told La Voix du Nord. “I thought it was beer, but soon it started to smell like urine. I was completely demoralized. I don’t understand why people do such things. I am therefore furious with the spectator who threw the cup.”

Stealing from children’s hands

In a comment to VeloNews Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl said it was “disgusted” at the incident. “We are of course disgusted that urine was thrown on Florian. We are thrilled that spectators are once again attending and enjoying matches, but we ask them to show respect for the athletes who participate.”

Sénéchal’s partner Margaux was also not happy. “I slept badly,” she writes in an extensive message on Instagram. “My eyes burn from the short night and a feeling that rarely drives me: hate… The hardest thing for me, and you (the spectator in question, ed.) must hear this is that you urinated into a cup of warm beer on a holiday and put it in his (Senechal, ed.) face threw. And that after he found the courage to crawl up (after his fall, ed.) after his biggest dream went up in smoke. During tennis you have to be quiet at a service, in F1 you don’t get into the paddock… Here you get free access to the match, the team buses and their empty drinking bottles. Which you probably steal from children’s hands.”
