The garbage collector was driving towards Hoofddorp this morning around 8 a.m. when he realized too late that the car in front of him wanted to turn, says a police spokesperson. The truck then ended up on the side of the road and fell almost horizontally into the water of the Hoofdvaart.
Not under the influence
The driver was able to free himself from his precarious position and did not have to go to the hospital. The police tested for alcohol or drug use, but the driver was not found to be under the influence of narcotics.
A salvage company will tow the garbage truck out of the water during the day. The police do not assume that the driver who drove in front of the garbage truck is to blame for the accident, and are therefore not looking for him or her.
Also truck in water yesterday
It is the second truck to end up in the water in Haarlemmermeer this week. Yesterday things went wrong for a truck driver in Nieuw-Vennep, who drove into a ditch from the N205.
