In Den Helder it happens more often that a seal slips into it occasionally. At the lock gates that separate the sweet and salty water, one can sneak in. But in Julianadorp, about ten kilometers away, that is a different story.
“I have never seen this,” says Chris Verschoor, who started walking around with his dog yesterday and suddenly saw something moving in the ditch. “I saw a big bow wave and knew: that can’t be a fish. Then I started filming it. He’s a good end to home.”

What the route has been from the seal towards Julianadorp is a matter of guessing. Google Maps shows that the village is about 10 kilometers from the lock gates on the south side of Den Helder. A nice trip through the fresh water. It is not unthinkable, because last year it was still spotted a seal at Callantsoog.
