A Dutch talent is apparently particularly in Munich’s sights. Scouts are said to have even attended a Europa League game for this purpose.
FC Bayern apparently has their eye on Givairo Read from Feyenoord Rotterdam. As the “Bild” newspaper reports, Munich’s chief scout Nils Schmadtke and assistant André Hechelmann observed the 19-year-old right-back at the Europa League game in Stuttgart on Thursday.
According to the report, both wanted to get a personal impression of Read’s performance. In the current Eredivisie season, the Amsterdam native was in the starting line-up in ten of eleven games. He is also regularly used in the Europa League.
Read has been playing for Feyenoord since 2023 and made the jump to the professionals in his second season. In addition to three assists in the league, he also scored a goal in the Europa League – in a 3-1 win against Panathinaikos Athens.
At a recent press conference for the Dutch U21 national team, Read commented on the Bayern rumors. He said: “My teammates joke about Bayern Munich, suddenly speak German to me and so on. That’s funny.” He didn’t want to go into the speculation itself, but emphasized: “It doesn’t distract me. I feel very comfortable at Feyenoord and am concentrating exclusively on my further development here.”
A commitment from the German record champions is likely to be costly. Read only extended his contract until 2029 in April. According to transfermarkt.de, his current market value is estimated at around 20 million euros.
For the Munich team, a transfer is therefore linked to conditions. First, another right-back would have to leave the club. Sacha Boey, signed from Galatasaray Istanbul in January 2024 for 30 million euros, is considered a possible sales candidate. There was already speculation about a farewell in the summer, but there were no concrete offers.
