Schumacher is left out: Sargeant gets Williams cockpit

Logan Sargeant has secured the regular cockpit at Williams. For Mick Schumacher, the remaining hope of a starting place in Formula 1 in the coming season has been shattered.

Williams preferred candidate Logan Sargeant finished his last Formula 2 race in Abu Dhabi in fifth place. The American finished fourth overall and, with the necessary points, met the requirements for a Formula 1 driver’s license.

Williams had promised Sargeant the regular cockpit for 2023 alongside Alex Albon if he should get his driver’s license for the motorsport premier class. The 21-year-old has now succeeded.

Mick Schumacher is now probably a replacement driver at Mercedes

After leaving Haas after two years, Mick Schumacher was considered a candidate for a Williams cockpit. For the 23-year-old, a job at Mercedes as a substitute driver is now likely. “Mick is someone who has always been very close to our hearts because of Michael and the whole Schumacher family“said Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff in advance.

Mick Schumacher’s father, Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher, drove his last three career years for Mercedes. In 2012 he finally resigned.
