Scholz does not expect the war in Ukraine to end quickly

MUNICH (dpa-AFX) – Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not expect a quick end to the Russian war against Ukraine. “I think it’s wise to prepare for a long war,” said the SPD politician on Friday at the opening of the Munich Security Conference (MSC). It is therefore also important that the allies are ready to support Ukraine for as long as necessary. Scholz spoke out against any speculation at a time for an end to the war. At the same time, he emphasized that he was confident that the German population would support the course of the federal government.

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his video address that he expected the war to end in 2023: “Goliath has already started to lose. Goliath will definitely fall this year,” said Zelenskyy. He compared his country to the biblical David who had to defend himself against a Russian Goliath./had/DP/nas
