In Borussia Dortmund’s cup game against Eintracht Frankfurt, Nico Schlotterbeck wears the BVB captain’s armband – because a teammate is resigning from the position.

Brandt explained his decision after the 4-2 win on penalties: He gave his DFB colleague the captain’s armband “because I think I haven’t been in the starting line-up that much in the last few weeks. But it’s very important for us as a team to have a bit of continuity and a permanent contact person.” He also praised Schlotterbeck: He is currently filling the role “superbly”.

According to the report, coach Niko Kovač has no objections to the internal regulations. The 54-year-old is counting on the players to clarify such issues on their own responsibility.

Because Emre Can has not been able to play a competitive game so far this season, Schlotterbeck has now moved to the top as third in the captaincy rankings. The national player will probably continue to wear the armband in the coming weeks – Can continues to suffer from adductor problems and is working on his comeback.
