Laurin Curda (m.) celebrates his goal to make it 1-0.

As of: November 3rd, 2025 12:01 a.m

SC Paderborn is now first in the table: After the 2-1 (1-0) win against SpVgg Greuther Fürth and the seventh league win in a row, the East Westphalians are hot candidates for promotion. Loser Fürth has to orientate itself towards the bottom.

The goals for East Westphalia were scored by Laurin Curda (37th) with a direct free kick and goalscorer Filip Bilbija with a header in the 64th minute. Omar Sillah’s goal (89′) came too late. While Paderborn jumped to first place, Fürth is deep in the relegation battle with just ten points in 16th place.

Greuther Fürth’s coach Thomas Kleine said afterwards on the sports show microphone: “We played a very good away game against an opponent who has now won for the seventh time in a row. We had a lot of opportunities, but we don’t have the slightest bit of luck right now.”

His Paderborn colleague Ralf Kettemann explained: “We stayed calm and got better and better, and we also got through a few tricky moments.” His team scored the goals at the right moments.

Fürth starts well, but Paderborn scores

After the unfortunate 2:4 after extra time in the DFB Cup against Bayer Leverkusen during the week, the SCP definitely wanted to continue its good run in the league. Initially, however, the guests took control of the game and created two better scoring opportunities in the first few minutes with courageous pressing. Branimir Hrgota and Mathias Olesen failed with their opportunities and did not hit the goal.

After a good quarter of an hour, the SCP was a little better in the game, but coach Ralf Kettemann’s protégés still needed a little time to gain the lead. While Stefano Marino failed to score a hundred percent from seven meters in the 25th minute, Curda took the lead that was long overdue at the time after 37 minutes: He hit a free kick from around 17 meters from a half-right position into the bottom left of the net – Fürth keeper Silas Pruerock didn’t look too good about it.

Hrgota misses the equalizer

The game association would have deserved an equalizer in the second half. Things got wild in the Paderborn penalty area, especially around the 55th minute: First, Hrgota once again fired a free shot from 14 meters over the box, and in the 56th minute it was Paderborn’s Castaneda who somehow scratched Abrangao’s header off the line from close range.

But instead of the expected 1:1 it was 2:0 a little later. And that had a lot to do with Fürth’s negligence in defense. After their own corner, the Franks were initially counterattacked, with Paderborn initially stopping themselves due to a technical error by Raphael Obermair in the forward movement.

But Paderborn stuck with it – and Fürth was still completely disorganized at the back. Bilbija was completely released in the center and Paderborn’s top scorer had no trouble heading Curda’s cross over the line to make it 2-0. It was the eighth goal of the season for the 25-year-old, who came to Paderborn in 2023 from HSV’s second representation.

Fürth tried the crowbar again in the remaining minutes. In fact, the goal was scored in the 89th minute when Sillah volleyed a blocked ball from 20 meters into the net to make it 2-1. But nothing more was achieved and Paderborn were the deserved winners in the end.
