SC Freiburg’s Yannik Keitel cancels VfB Stuttgart – Ao Tanaka Alternative

Fee too high

VfB Stuttgart’s interest in U21 national player Yannik Keitel from SC Freiburg has been documented for some time – talks are said to have intensified in the past few days, but then ended early. According to the “table football” the 23-year-old defensive midfielder canceled the Swabians. They could not have previously agreed on a fee for Keitel with the Breisgauers.

Freiburg are demanding around 5 million euros for Keitel, who is only tied until 2024, which VfB is currently unable to pay. This will probably only be possible towards the end of the transfer phase, when concrete offers are received for high-value players such as Borna Sosa (25) or Konstantinos Mavropanos (25). The “Kicker” report does not reveal whether Keitel does not want to wait so long and has therefore canceled. In the TM rumor mill, the user “Jaja-wunderbar” writes: “I also understand that he probably doesn’t want to wait any longer. Let’s see what will happen to him and who we’ll get…”

VfB have already identified an alternative to Keitel: Ao Tanaka (24) from Fortuna Düsseldorf. It is questionable whether the 19-time Japanese international will be much cheaper. His contract is valid until 2025 and an exit clause – again over 5 million euros – expired at the end of May. In the TM rumor mill, Tanaka is also linked to West Ham United, Fulham FC and Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the rumors come from a time when the Hessians, for example, had not yet committed Ellyes Skhiri (28).
